Dive into the world of sports statistics by using real-world examples to better understand how numbers tell a story and how they can help lead to a win. In this course, we'll uncover patterns by analyzing data from basketball, soccer, baseball, and more; learn classic statistical techniques and how to craft good queries; accurately collect, review, summarize, and analyze data; identify patterns and trends; and effectively communicate your conclusions. To answer your own burning sports questions, you and your classmates will share ideas, brainstorm solutions, and conduct investigations by designing and completing a research project and presenting your results to the class. If you love sports and want to learn more about the numbers behind the games, or if you’re curious about how to use data to make informed decisions, this course is for you!
Time commitment: 2.5-3.5 hours per week (1.5 hours of class time, 1-2 hours of independent work). Course will include 6 sessions over 6 weeks.
