About the Course
Between 3000 BCE and 500 CE, influential civilizations left lasting legacies that continue to shape our world today. In this course, we'll focus specifically on Ancient Egypt, exploring its distinctive geography, daily life, social structures, government, economy, and religion. We'll discover the mysteries of pharaohs' tombs, who built the great pyramids, the significance of Egyptian symbols and myths, and the artistic achievements that define this remarkable civilization. Through historical accounts, myths, legends, and arts, you'll build critical thinking and research skills, gaining a deep appreciation for the richness and impact of Ancient Egyptian civilization. We'll focus on the six characteristics that every civilization has for the civilization of focus during this course. These include: geography, religion, achievements (including art), politics, economy, and social system or structure. This course emphasizes a synthesis of knowledge about the GRAPES characteristics that make up a culture, and as time allows, we'll also examine how various civilizations around the world affected each other.
