Guidance

Our instructors actively engage students in their learning by challenging them to analyze and synthesize material and advance their knowledge through hands-on projects, activities, and labs. Our instructors are experts in their fields who are skilled at working with young, advanced learners. They present lively lessons, support active learning by questioning and encouraging students to reach understanding independently, and provide helpful feedback throughout the course.

Mastery

CTY’s evidence-based approach to teaching employs facilitated learning over direct instruction. In class, our students stay engaged and master course concepts through hands-on projects, activities, labs, and peer-review workshops.  Along the way, instructors also provide students with robust, useful feedback to identify and address misconceptions or gaps in understanding.

Exploration

Our classrooms give students room to safely explore a new or favorite topic, challenge themselves academically, make mistakes, and reflect on lessons learned to develop their skills and gain a stronger understanding of the course material. This freedom and flexibility provides students with the opportunity to try a variety of subjects and choose the approach that works best for them.
