Expectations for Student Conduct
CTY’s On-Campus Summer Programs provide unique opportunities for intellectually curious people from diverse backgrounds to come together in pursuit of academic challenge and growth, within a supportive community built on respect, responsibility, and trust. In order to create and sustain such a community, students attending CTY must follow the expectations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
How Courses are Assigned
Students are not assigned to courses on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, we use a computer algorithm to assign as a group all students whose applications are received by a particular date. The algorithm prioritizes students according to several factors, including test scores, returning or first-time status, and whether this is their last year of eligibility for a program. If your first-choice course is already full, you will be considered for your next course choice. If you did not select backup courses, or if all course choices are full, you will not be assigned to a course. Students who include several courses, sites, or sessions among their choices stand a better chance of receiving a course assignment. Listing multiple choices won’t hurt your chance of being assigned to your first-choice course.
Enrolling in a Second Summer Session
To give all qualified students an equal opportunity to have an on-campus summer experience, we initially allow each student to enroll in one (1) three-week on-campus summer session. On January 19, we will begin considering requests for students to enroll in a second session. You may submit your request, along with the second tuition deposit, with your application.
Changing Your Course Choices
To add or change courses, visit MyCTY and submit a new course request. Changes made by 11:59 p.m. (Eastern time) on Tuesday during the week of course assignment will be considered. You will not be able to make course changes on Fridays. Students are considered for placement as part of the next regular weekly course assignment run. Priority for placement follows the usual ranking system. Placement into a new choice is not guaranteed. The process is automated so request new courses only if you are certain you want to make a change since it might not be possible to switch back to your original course.
The Waitlist Process
Students not placed in a course are waitlisted. Please note:
- If a course opens, all waitlisted students with that choice are considered. Priority is determined by the above course-assignment process.
- If you are assigned a course, you may choose to remain in your current course while joining the waitlist for another. The waitlist process is automated. If you are at the top of the waitlist and a space opens, you will be moved out of your current course (if any) and placed in the new course. Families are not contacted before this change is made and switching back to the original course generally isn’t possible. Update or delete your waitlist request if you no longer wish to be on the waitlist for a course.
- Waitlisted students receive an email about their status each Friday, until they are assigned to the waitlisted course, remove themselves from the waitlist via MyCTY, or withdraw their application.
On April 8, students will be removed from the waitlist. If you want to remain on the waitlist, please update your application on MyCTY.
Refund Policy
Enrolling early is risk-free! Cancel before March 1, 2024, and receive a full tuition refund, minus the application fee.
If you wish to withdraw from an On-Campus Summer Program course for any reason before students arrive onsite for the program, submit the withdrawal request via MyCTY or email CTY Enrollment Services at [email protected]. If you wish to submit a withdrawal request after students have arrived onsite, you must notify the site director. Refunds are determined based on the date of the withdrawal request. See chart for details.
Date of Withdrawal Request | Cancellation Fee |
---|---|
Before March 1 | $0* |
March 1 thru April 7 | $750* |
April 8 to course start date | 50% of total amount due* |
After course start date | No refund* |
Refunds are issued in the same manner of payment used for the initial payment to CTY. Refunds may take 4-6 weeks from the time the withdrawal request is received to be reimbursed. Application fees are non-refundable.
Full tuition and non-application fees are fully refundable after March 1 only in the following circumstances:
- If a student withdraws for a medical reason and provides CTY with appropriate documentation from a physician.
- If the student applies for, but is not awarded, financial aid.
- If the student is not assigned to any of the courses requested; or all of the requested courses are cancelled.
- If CTY cancels the program or closes a site for any reason prior to the start of the course, all non-application tuition and fees will be refunded.
Medical withdrawal refunds occurring during the program will be granted on a pro-rated basis. For example, if the student enrolls in a June 23–July 12 residential on-campus session, tuition costs $6,599, and student withdraws on June 27 due to illness. The student is considered to have been in attendance for five days, so the family is due a refund of 15/20 of the total tuition cost, or $4,950.
*Application and international fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

Any costs incurred and not paid by the family at the time of service will be billed to the student’s CTY account. Medical insurance is not required to attend CTY.
