About the Course
In this course, you will use the drafting and revision skills you learned in The Process of Writing to practice clearly communicating your ideas to an audience. You will reflect on your relationship to a topic of your choice in a personal essay; explore the similarities and differences between two items in a compare-and-contrast essay; create a fictional short story; develop a stance on digital interaction and citizenship; write a persuasive letter convincing someone to grant you a wish; discover, and experiment with, different literary styles; and learn how to organize your writing to captivate your audience. You will work on each assignment twice, engaging in all steps of the writing process: brainstorming, pre-writing, drafting, applying feedback, revising, editing, proofreading, and reflection. Time Commitment: 4-6 hours of independent work per week.
