About the Course
In this interdisciplinary class, we’ll explore the fascinating connections between science and art through hands-on experimentation and creative expression. We’ll study the physics of light and color theory, investigate the chemistry of pigments, dyes, and sculptural materials, examine sound waves and music visualization, and explore how chaos theory connects to abstract expressionism. Throughout the course, you’ll design experiments, create original artworks, and analyze masterpieces through a scientific lens, discovering how the intersection of science and art reveals new ways of understanding our world.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the scientific principles underlying artistic media and techniques
- Design and conduct investigations that apply the scientific method to artistic experimentation
- Evaluate works of art and music through a scientific lens, considering how artists apply scientific concepts in their creative choices
- Create original artworks or multimedia projects that intentionally apply scientific knowledge to achieve aesthetic or conceptual effects
