About the Course

Join CTY at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. for a unique and immersive exploration of modern medicine! We’ll take an up-close look at the world of neurosurgery as the expert surgical team from Overlook Medical Center presents a demonstration, offering insight into real surgical procedures and the decision-making behind them. Through real-time discussion, students will have the rare chance to examine risk factors, learn about surgical instruments, connect with medical professionals, ask questions, and learn about the wide range of careers in medicine. Students will have fun, collaborate, and build community through participating in hands-on laboratory workshops.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain insight into complex neurosurgical procedures by observing a live surgical demonstration and discussing the methodologies employed by medical professionals
  • Identify and analyze potential risks associated with neurosurgery, fostering critical thinking about patient care and outcomes, as well as the importance of informed consent in medical procedures
  • Through interactions with surgeons and hands-on laboratory workshops, students will learn about various career paths within medicine and biotechnology, including the educational requirements, skillsets, and daily responsibilities associated with these professions
