About the Course

Why do animals adapt? What are the advantages of renewable energy? What do environmental scientists do? In this course, we'll answer these questions and others as we learn about different types of environmental science and scientists who work in this expansive field. We'll discover how to design and conduct experiments, and will participate in hands-on activities such as constructing soil profiles like a soil scientist and simulating core sampling like a geologist. We'll also examine the role environmental scientists play in creating and enforcing the guidelines and regulations that impact our global footprint.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the purpose and duties of various environmental scientists and describe the processes, methods, and tools used to perform their jobs
  • Describe climate change and the steps environmental scientists are taking to solve it
  • Collect, organize, and analyze lab data in tables and graphs, looking for patterns and trends that defend a conclusion using evidence to support or refute the hypothesis
