About the Course

Welcome to the club! In CTY’s Chess Club, students who enjoy playing the game come together to practice their chess tactics and strategies in a community setting.

Through forum discussion and the opportunity to play games multiple times per week, you’ll improve in chess knowledge, strategy, and confidence!

This club has synchronous virtual club meetings where you can interact with other club members.

A few notes about CTY Chess Club:
This is not meant to replace or be considered a core piece of any course that CTY offers. While curricular content will be introduced, it is not at the quantity of a course, the focus is on giving students a chance to interact as a group rather than individual time working with a club advisor.

Learning Objectives

What we'll do
We'll meet multiple times a week for game sessions where students can play structured games and communicate during or between games, in a virtual room moderated by a club coach. Outside of these meetings, you can play games against your classmates asynchronously on our chess club website. You can also discuss the game of chess with your fellow club members in forums, and learn more about famous chess players.
