Illness and Medical Withdrawals
For In-Person Programming
Students experiencing fever or illness symptoms must isolate until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication. Students who cannot participate in regular program activities due to illness or injury will be required to leave the site to recover under the care of their families.
Families are urged to designate in advance a responsible adult who can pick up and care for the student in these cases. Students who leave the program and do not return will be withdrawn and may be eligible for a prorated refund, in alignment with our refund policy.
For Online Courses
Students who are unable to complete their online course due to medical reasons may request a medical withdrawal. Each request will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and CTY may require documentation from a licensed healthcare provider.
Approved withdrawals may result in a prorated refund or the option to defer enrollment to a later term. Families should contact CTY directly to explore options.
Public Health Compliance
CTY adheres to all guidance issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Johns Hopkins University, and our host institutions. Additional health and safety procedures may be implemented in response to emerging public health concerns. Compliance with all protocols is a condition of participation in CTY programs.
These protocols are subject to change without prior notice. CTY will communicate any significant updates to families in a timely manner.
Vaccinations (In-Person Programming Only)
Students attending in-person CTY programs are required to be up to date on all routine childhood vaccinations or must submit a permissible medical or religious exemption. Compliance with vaccine requirements is mandatory for participation in residential or day programs.
Medication Management (In-Person Programming Only)
In accordance with local regulations and CTY safety practices:
All medications must be turned in to CTY staff on opening day.
Medications must be in their original, labeled pharmacy containers and accompanied by the appropriate documentation, including signed instructions from a parent/guardian and prescribing physician.
Students are not permitted to keep medications in their rooms or on their person, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, or supplements. Exceptions are made only for emergency medications, such as epinephrine auto-injectors and inhalers.
CTY staff do not administer injections. Students who require injectable medication must be able to self-administer or contact the site’s program manager in advance to discuss potential arrangements. Allergy shots are generally not permitted at CTY sites.
Payment for Medical Services (In-Person Programming Only)
CTY does not provide medical insurance for students. While medical insurance is not required for participation in our programs, it is strongly recommended.
Families are responsible for all costs incurred from medical services provided while a student is attending CTY. Some healthcare providers may require payment at the time of service.
Any unpaid costs will be billed to the student’s CTY account.
