At the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY), students explore their interests and challenge themselves academically while belonging to a vibrant learning community and making lifelong friends. As part of our On-Campus Summer Programs team, you can develop invaluable skills, grow your professional networks, and make friends while earning a competitive salary and working closely with bright students from around the world. Our On-Campus Summer Programs are held at esteemed colleges, universities, and schools around the United States.
Various positions are available at our residential and day/commuter sites.
At residential sites, students and staff live on campus during the session. Housing and meals are provided in addition to salary for staff. View a sample daily schedule.

Positions at 2023 Summer Residential Sites
2023 residential programs will be held in Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, and Rhode Island.

- Academic Counselor: Similar to that of a boarding school counselor. Provides short-term, goal-focused counseling services to students and supports the staff in meeting the social, emotional, and educational needs of students. Salary: $3,363-3,579 per session
- Academic Dean: Assumes primary responsibility for supervising the academic staff and coordinating the academic program. Salary: $3,600 per session
- Assistant Academic Dean: Primarily works with the academic dean on day-to-day oversight of the academic program and faculty. Salary: $2,771 per session
- Assistant Site Director: Oversees the site health office and assists the site director in managing key operational aspects of site administration such as tracking documentation, assisting with student check-in and check-out, and evaluating overall program functionality. Salary: $4,208 per session
- Dean of Residential Life: Assumes primary responsibility for supervising the residential staff and directing the residential program. Salary: $3,600 per session
- Health Assistant: Works closely with the site nurse(s) and assistant site director and participates in the day-to-day operation of the site health office. This includes keeping track of students' medications and medical appointments, conferring with parents/guardians, and acting as a liaison with nearby medical professionals. Salary: $2,142 per session
- Instructor: Responsible for teaching an appropriately challenging and rigorous course to approximately 18-20 highly able students (14-16 in Young Students classes); courses are offered in mathematics, science and technology, writing, and humanities and social sciences. Salary: $3,757-4,438 per session
- Office Manager: Assists the site director in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the site's main office, including bookkeeping and supervising Residential Program Assistants. Salary: $2,651 per session
- Resident Assistant: Assists in creating a community that encourages and supports intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a joy for learning; ensures the physical and emotional safety of students; and develops a fun, dynamic, and engaging activities program. Salary: $1,826 per session
- Residential Program Assistant: Provides logistical support to the daily operation of both the site office and the residential program. Salary: $2,142 per session
- Senior Resident Assistant: Helps manage the day-to-day operation and implementation of the residential program and supervises the staff of resident assistants. Salary: $2,255 per session
- Site Director: Similar to a head of school or principal, provides overall leadership, manages the day-to-day operations at their sites, and oversees the site administrative team. Salary: $4,728-6,897 per session
- Site Nurse: Oversees medical issues at the site in coordination with the rest of the site administrative team. The position is both administrative and clinical. Salary: $4,130-6,897 per session plus completion bonus
- Teaching Assistant: Tutors students, assists with class paperwork, teaches the class as requested by the instructor, assists with administrative tasks such as note-taking and photocopying, and generally helps to ensure the class runs smoothly. Salary: $1,688 per session

2023 day/commuter programs will be held in Baltimore and New York City.

- Academic Counselor: Similar to that of a school counselor, provides short-term, goal-focused counseling services to students and supports instructional staff in meeting the social, emotional, and educational needs of students. Salary: $3,038-3,255 per session
- Academic Dean: Assumes primary responsibility for supervising the academic staff and coordinating the academic program. Salary: $3,421 per session
- Assistant Academic Dean: Primarily works with the academic dean on day-to-day oversight of the academic program and faculty. Salary: $2,630 per session
- Dean of Students: Supervises the program assistants and coordinates the afternoon activities program. Salary: $3,438 per session
- Dean of Students’ Assistant: Helps coordinate the afternoon activities program and assists with other responsibilities of the dean of students. Salary: $2,130 per session
- General Assistant: Provides general support to the program at their sites. Salary: $2,130 per session
- Health Assistant: Works closely with the site nurse and site director to participate in the day-to-day operation of the site health office as part of the site administrative team. This includes keeping track of students' medications, conferring with parents/guardians, and assisting as needed with students. Salary: $2,130 per session
- Instructor: Responsible for teaching an appropriately challenging and rigorous course to approximately 14-16 highly able students; courses are offered in mathematics, science and technology, writing, and humanities and social sciences. Salary: $3,757-4,638 per session
- Office Manager: Assists the site director in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the site's main office, including bookkeeping and supervising General Assistants. Salary: $2,535 per session
- Program Assistant: Responsible for student supervision both inside and outside the CTY classroom. PAs also plan and lead all afternoon activities. Salary: $1,688 per session
- Site Director: Similar to a head of school or principal, provides overall leadership, manage the day-to-day operations at their sites, and oversees the site administrative team. Salary: $3,977 per session
- Site Nurse: Responsible for overseeing medical issues at the site in coordination with the rest of the site administrative team. The position is both administrative and clinical. Salary: $3,776-6,372 per session plus completion bonus
Core Student Dates for Summer 2023
- Session 1 for all sites except Santa Cruz: June 25 – July 14
- Session 2 for all sites except Santa Cruz: July 16 – August 4
- Santa Cruz Session 1: July 2-July 21
- Santa Cruz Session 2: July 23-August 11
Arrival date for Site Administrators: Session one administrators arrive the Sunday before academic and residential staff for orientation and training. This includes Site Directors, Academic Deans, Academic Counselors, Assistant Site Directors, Deans of Residential Life, Deans of Students, Office Managers, Site Nurses, Assistant Academic Deans, Dean of Students’ Assistants, General Assistants, Senior Resident Assistants, Health Assistants, and Residential Program Assistants. Please note that senior administrative staff (Site Directors, Assistant Site Directors, Academic Deans, Academic Counselors, Deans of Students, Deans of Residential Life, and Office Managers) also attend mandatory training the first Saturday and Sunday in June.
