Harness and integrate the math skills you’ve learned in school while exploring their applications and interconnectedness in-depth in this unique mathematics modeling course. Through course materials, assignments, and class activities, you’ll work to solve interesting problems using techniques taught in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry. While applying what you’ve learned by hand, you’ll also learn how to use technology to simplify problems and get more accurate solutions.
This course has synchronous virtual class meetings on Saturdays from 4-5 p.m. ET; participation is optional but highly recommended. Students may also schedule weekly one-on-one virtual meetings directly with the instructor to answer questions or concerns. Meetings will be recorded for students who are unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. Join us for a chance to work individually or with your peers on some exciting application problems.
Students may interact in CTY online classrooms and meetings that include peers, instructors, and occasional special guests. Courses may include videos from the web. Recommendations or links at the end of videos are provided by the video host and are not CTY recommendations. Students may have the option to post their work on public third-party sites (e.g., YouTube). Virtual class meetings may be recorded for students to review. After a student completes this course, their projects may be used to illustrate work for future students.
This course requires a properly maintained computer with high-speed internet access and an up-to-date web browser (such as Chrome or Firefox). The student must be able to communicate with the instructor via email. Visit the Technical Requirements and Support page for more details.
