Sophia Pink loves school. But in ninth grade, she grew frustrated with the rigidity of her schedule. “I wanted to take a break from the typical routine to focus on projects that I was really excited about and engaged in,” she says.
So, with the support of her parents and her school, Sophia, who lives in Washington D.C., spent her sophomore year taking writing, pre-calculus, and chemistry with CTYOnline.
She liked learning on her laptop at her own pace, studying in cafés, in the library, and at the dining room table. Her flexible schedule gave her time to make a short film, conduct a research project, and create a mobile app prompting users to do good deeds.
“Online learning is a great way to learn material deeply and well without having to learn in a classroom,” she says.
