The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (“JHU CTY”) respects your and your child’s privacy rights and will act reasonably to ensure that any information you provide to us is not accessed by unauthorized persons.

CTY complies with the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Privacy Statement for Websites and Mobile Applications (“JHU Privacy Statement”).

Exceptions and additions to JHU Privacy Statement are provided below.

References in the JHU Privacy Statement to “you” providing consent/permission should be interpreted as the adult parent/guardian providing permission for a child. The use of “you” in reference to a student should be interpreted as the child.

Supplementation of Information. In addition to data provided directly by families, CTY collects information on your child as a function of participation in testing, program, and events, including but not limited to test scores, coursework, and tools for internal evaluation routinely conducted as part of program delivery and designed for continuous program monitoring and improvements.

Research. Data collected on your student as part of their participation at CTY may be used in anonymized or aggregate form to conduct research in accordance with the university’s mission as a research institution and with CTY’s mission to advance the field of advanced learning. All studies conducted for external distribution are reviewed by the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Institutional Review Board and adhere to all federal regulations regarding protection of research participants. The collection of data solely for research will only be conducted with appropriate permission from you and assent from your child.

COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act). Whereas the university statement does not include provisions for students under the age of 13, CTY is an organization designed to serve students at younger ages and, therefore, adheres to COPPA for data collection. For information on student privacy rights and compliance to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, please refer to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule ("COPPA").

FERPA (Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act). For information on student privacy rights and our compliance to the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, please refer to the JHU CTY’s Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Notification of Rights.

Other data collection, use, and disclosure. In certain circumstances, we may retain your or your child’s personal information as required by law or in order to continue providing a service. We do not otherwise collect, use, or disclose personal information from your child without your permission or at your direction.

Review

If you are a parent/guardian, you have a right to review, update, correct, delete, or refuse further collection and use of personal information collected on your child. You may do so by contacting [email protected], directly. Please note that refusal of certain information may limit CTY’s ability to deliver appropriate services or programming.

Updates

If we make material changes to how we use Personally Identifiable Information collected from children under the age of 13, we will notify parents by the email address specified in your account to obtain verifiable parental permission for the new uses of the child’s Personally Identifiable Information.

Acceptance of Terms and Reservation of Rights

All terms and conditions specified on the JHU Privacy Statement also apply to the CTY Supplement.
