Computer and Online Learning with CTY
A groundbreaking 2009 US Department of Education study suggests that online instruction’s moment in the spotlight has arrived. The study was picked up by the New York Times under the headline Study Finds That Online Education Beats the Classroom, and indeed that’s the conclusion of the report.
CTYOnline courses are at the forefront of technology applications. They allow students from kindergarten through high school to pursue challenging courses, check in with instructors, and link up with peers wherever and often whenever they like. Find out more.
The Times article reported, “Until fairly recently, online education amounted to little more than electronic versions of the old-line correspondence courses. That has really changed with arrival of Web-based video, instant messaging and collaboration tools.”
Cogito.org
Thinking teens with a flair for math and science can think all they want, and chat too, on www.cogito.org, a web resource for the world’s top science minds ages 8-18. The site is constantly updated with breaking news about math and science and interviews with important scientists. Even astronaut Franklin Chang Diaz signed in one night to say hello. Last fall, Cogito hosted Swine Online, a webinar on H1N1 influenza that The Baltimore Sun described as “incredible.” All this—for free!
