Working in partnership with the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy (MMLA), CTY is offering a four-week language immersion program for students in grades six through nine. The languages offered are Arabic, Chinese, French, and Spanish. Middlebury College and the Monterey Institute of International Studies have long been recognized leaders in language education and international studies. Since 1915, when it first launched an immersion program, Middlebury College has led the world in full-immersion language and cultural education. The Monterey Institute of International Studies, now in its 50th year and affiliated with Middlebury College since 2005, is renowned for its graduate education for professional careers in language teaching, translation and interpretation, and business and global policy. The program combines a full-immersion experience with an array of events, trips, and activities which set the cultural context for the languages students are studying. The curriculum is designed especially for middle and high school students, using the best teaching strategies from Middlebury College and the Monterey Institute for International Studies. Studens learn under the direction of faculty who are specialists in middle and high school language acquisition. Students and their resident assistants live the language in language-specific housing and use the target language for all activities. As a result, thinking and speaking a second language is reinforced by linking new vocabulary and grammar with all aspects of daily life. CTY is hiring only the administrators for the program. MMLA is hiring instructional staff, resident assistants, and language-specific deans. For the staff to be hired by CTY, proficiency with Arabic, Chinese, French, or Spanish although preferred, is not required. Administrators begin on June 23 and are contracted through July 28. Because this program is one week longer than our standard programs, the standard compensation scale, which is based on based on three week sessions, will be adjusted.
