CTY Summer Employment

Instructor

Summer programs instructors are responsible for teaching an appropriately challenging and rigorous course to approximately 15-18 highly able students (12-14 in Young Students classes). Instructors' primary responsibilities are to plan and conduct their classes and labs within our guidelines, to monitor the progress of each of their students, and to supervise their assistants. (There is one assistant for each instructor.)

Instructors' daily working hours are class times (which include some evening sessions at 7th Grade and Above sites) and additional class planning and preparation time as needed.

At residential sites, instructors are responsible for Sunday evening class sessions and for working the opening weekend, some of intersession, and the closing weekend, periods when all staff must remain on campus to assist with student arrival and departure. Otherwise, instructors do not have scheduled responsibilities on the weekends.

At day sites, instructors are responsible for working Registration Day of the opening weekend and some or all of intersession weekend. In addition, instructors may also work Saturday of closing week, if needed. Otherwise, instructors do not have scheduled responsibilities on the weekend.

Terms of Employment:

  • Starting salary is $4,200 to $6,000 for two sessions
  • Employees pay their travel to and from domestic program locations
  • Travel assistance is provided for international travel to sites outside of North America
  • For residential program employees, room and board are provided
  • For day site program employees, lunch is provided

Desired Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience, preferably with children or adolescents
  • Graduate course work in the appropriate field with a GPA of 3.2 or better
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Maturity, responsibility, and creativity
