SET's primary function is as a counseling service to its members -- outstanding students who may not yet be ready to enter our nation's most selective colleges and universities, but who are also not well served by the typical middle or high school curriculum. As SET members enter college, graduate school, and the work force, SET continues to be a resource for them; and they in turn become resources for younger SET members. Download a 2011 SET Precollege Update form (pdf). To help students find appropriately challenging academic opportunities, SET provides academic advice through our publications and web sites: - Imagine, a bimonthly magazine created just for highly able middle and high school students. SET members receive a free subscription to Imagine. The publication is also available by subscription to anyone interested in learning more about opportunities for academically able youth. The Imagine Links site connects to hundreds of programs, activities, and resources of interest to highly able students.
- The SET Precollege Newsletter, published just for SET members, include additional information about programs as well as news updates from SET members around the world.
- Cogito.org provides searchable directories of academic competitions, summer programs, and internship opportunities.
SET members who would like personal educational counseling may call (410) 735-6120 or e-mail a member of the SET Staff. Non-members seeking counseling should contact CTY's Diagnostic & Counseling Center. SET facilitates communication among its members via our web site Cogito.org and through a web page linking to some college-and-older SET members. These enable SET members to share their insights and experiences with one another. The members-only forums on Cogito.org offer an informal way to engage in discussions with fellow SET members and other exceptional students from around the world. Members can discuss their favorite subjects, offer opinions or advice, share a concern, ask for input, or just lurk and hear what others have to say. It is primarily intended for precollege students, but SET members of any age may join. Please contact cogitocty@jhu.edu for instructions on how to join. SET Alumni on the Web links to pages by or about SET members now in college or beyond. It helps SET members contact friends or find other SET members who share their interests and concerns. It also makes for very interesting browsing! Top
