Picture of Robert Arena.Robert Arena, an online education executive with experience in course development and program marketing, has been named Senior Director of Online Programs at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. At CTY, Arena will oversee all aspects of the center’s renowned online education for academically advanced pre-college students.

“Rob has a rare combination of technical expertise in online education, especially in courseware development for K-12, along with deep experience developing effective communications and campaigns,” said Elaine Hansen, executive director of CTY. “He is joining us at an important inflection point in the maturation of CTY Online Programs. We are confident that he will lead us in a quickly evolving educational environment to promote access and a secure future for CTY Online Programs aligned with CTY’s and Johns Hopkins’ mission.” 

Arena comes to CTY from Connections Education, where he served as Executive Director of Curriculum Product Development, overseeing more than a hundred staff members involved in courseware, training, and multimedia development for K-12 online courses. Prior to joining Connections Education, he was Vice President of Interactive at the Baltimore marketing firm Carton Donofrio Partners, where his work included management of digital advertising and IT infrastructure. For almost a decade before this, he was responsible for bringing pioneering internet tools and strategies to several high-profile political campaigns.

Arena, who started at CTY on October 24, received his B.A. in economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Since 1979 CTY has helped identify, nurture, and advocate for academically advanced students of all backgrounds. A nonprofit, CTY offers exceptional learning opportunities to pre-college students from around the world, including summer, online, and family programs.

In 2016, CTY had more than 13,700 enrollments in more than 160 innovative online courses ranging from Arabic to linear algebra to a full suite of AP offerings. At CTY, our expert online instructors work one on one with bright students to impart knowledge and encourage their love of learning.
