First time at JHU-CTY?
If this is your first time visiting The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth website, you probably have questions. Fortunately, we have answers. Q: What is CTY? The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) identifies top academic students in grades two through eight and provides fun and challenging educational programs through their 10th grade year. Educational programs include summer residential programs, distance education, and family conferences. Q: What is the CTY Talent Search, and what is its purpose? A: Talent Search is a process of identifying and testing academically gifted children. Its purpose is to locate, assess, recognize, and provide educational opportunities for mathematically and/or verbally talented students in grades two through eight. Q: How does the Talent Search process work? A: Talent Search asks schools to identify students who have scored at or above the 95th percentile on a nationally normed standardized test and to distribute Talent Search applications and brochures to the qualified students. Talent Search also provides applications and brochures to individuals. When students decide to participate, they - complete the Talent Search application,
- register to take an above-level test,
- take the test at a local test center.
Q: How do I get involved in CTY? A. If you are a student and you qualify, you can participate in exciting, accelerated learning programs. Parents can get involved by discussing their talented children’s needs with teachers and counselors. Parents of CTY students can become involved with CTY as an Outreach Associate and in other support roles. Educators can nominate talented students to participate in CTY’s Talent Search.
