How to write for Imagine

Feature Articles

Imagine accepts queries (proposals) for feature articles. Please do not send completed articles. We prefer to work closely with writers from the beginning to avoid unnecessary rewrites. Because we have a very small editorial staff, we are unable to provide feedback on articles that we have not agreed to publish.

Our issues for the 2011-2012 volume year will focus on:

• Physics & Astronomy (closed for submissions)
  
• The Classical World (closed for submissions)
• Biology (closed for submissions)
• Dramatic Arts (closed for submissions)
• Build It!

We are interested in queries related to these topics as well as unrelated topics, as we publish at least two articles not related to the focus topic in each issue.

A few tips:

• Submissions and queries should come from the students interested in publishing their work. We appreciate the interest of parents and educators in publishing their students’ writing; however, we want to hear from students themselves. We want to read work that the student believes in and believes is worthy of publication.
• Imagine is a unique magazine, so please make sure you read at least one issue before submitting your writing to us. If you are not familiar with Imagine, please order a back issue or read a digital issue to make sure your submission is appropriate. We do not publish research papers.

Creative Minds Imagine

We run three creative writing contests each year for students age 18 and under:

• Poetry (winners published in Sept/Oct issue)
• Creative Nonfiction/Essay (winners published in Jan/Feb issue)
• Short Fiction (winners published in May/June issue).

Off the Shelf

Have you read a great book lately? Imagine readers want to know! We publish reviews of everything from the classics to hot-off-the-press releases. Tell us what you're reading and why you think others would enjoy it. In an upcoming issue, we may publish your name, the title of the book you recommend, and your reasons for recommending it. We may even invite you to expand your recommendation into a featured review for a future issue.

Letters

What do you think of the current issue? Is there an article that you really like, or is there something you’d like us to do better? Write us a letter or send us an e-mail! Depending on the number of responses wer receive, we may publish letters in the following issue.
