For many students, fifth grade marks the end of elementary school and, soon, the start of middle school. That’s a critical transitional time to keep a healthy focus on strong academic achievement.
The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth has been the answer for parents seeking a resource beyond school walls that can help keep high achieving students on the right track.
The Global Talent Search, acts as a bridge to CTY, first by providing data about your child’s math and verbal abilities, and then by connecting you and your child to CTY’s rich resources available to qualified students and their families.
How CTY works
CTY is a multi-tiered program. You start with the CTY Talent Search. Testing helps you discover your child’s abilities, can lead to recognition at state academic ceremonies, and can open doors to CTY’s courses and services.
CTY means opportunities
Students who test with CTY and receive qualifying scores can take their academics to the next level.
CTYOnline offers a number of different math, Inventions in Engineering, Mastering the Fundamentals of Music, foreign language (Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish), elementary scratch programming, The Process of Writing, Grammar Fundamentals, and critical reading (Young Readers' Series) courses to 5th grade students with qualifying scores.
CTY also offers its highly regarded Summer Programs courses for fifth grade students, in three week residential programs on college campuses in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, and California. Day programs take place near Baltimore Washington, DC, west Los Angeles, Pasadena, and La Jolla, CA.
All Talent Search students can attend CTY’s Family Academic Programs. Our Discovery Series--one-day or weekend courses offered at art museums, science centers, and aquariums around the country—is especially designed for bright 5th graders to attend with their parents.
