# Geometry

## The Secret Castle

Geometry: The Secret Castle is most appropriate for students who are currently enrolled in geometry or who have a good understanding of basic geometry. Students apply geometric properties and relationships to solve problems, explore transformations of figures, and solve problems using geometric models. This module also functions as an excellent review of the fundamentals of geometry. This module follows the NCTM standards for Geometry for grades 6 - 8.

On this adventure, students will:

• Analyze characteristics and properties of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships
• Specify locations and describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry and other representational systems
• Apply transformations and use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations
• Use visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling to solve problems

### Sample Problems

Climb the spiral staircase to the main level of the castle to the Hall of Mathematicians, solving problems as you go and gathering what you will later need to build your means of escape. Climb the spiral staircase to the main level of the castle to the Hall of Mathematicians, solving problems as you go and gathering what you will later need to build your means of escape. Descartes' Observatory on the castle's rooftop contains a powerful telescope you can use to explore the night sky. If you master Hypatia's challenges and complete the Final Quest, you build a biplane to escape the island!
