Most of our courses require a standards-compliant web browser, with the following features enabled: - Javascript: most web-based courses and CTY web sites.
- pop-up windows: most web-based courses, Writing CD, WebCT.
- cookies (first party): all web-based courses, WebCT, Math Whiteboard, Quiz Corner.
- Java: Whiteboard, Problem Solving, Grades 1-6 Math.
- Flash plugin: most web-based courses, Writing CDs.
- QuickTime: all CD-based courses.
- Authorware web player: Honors Biology & Chemistry.
In general, the default configuration of an up-to-date web browser should work correctly with our courses. If you desire to make any changes, you should insure that they do not interfere with the operation of our courseware. You also must manage any 3rd party add-ons (such as plugins, toolbars, or BHOs) that you have installed, and adjust or remove them if needed. Many popular toolbars are known to conflict with online courses. - Make sure Windows is fully updated and protected from spyware
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click the Tools menu -> Internet Options
- Click the Privacy tab
- Set the Privacy level to Medium (Medium-High may also work for some courses)
- Click the Security tab
- There are four Zones here: Internet, Local, Trusted, & Restricted
- Click on the Internet icon, then set the Security Level to Medium
- Click on the Local icon, then set the Security Level to Medium
- Click on the Trusted icon, then set the Security Level to Medium
- Add your course web site or sites to the Trusted zone
- Click on the Restricted icon, then set the Security Level to High
- Click the OK button
If you want to use Custom levels or Advanced settings instead, that's okay, but it is your responsibility to make sure that your browser is compatible with our courses. Settings for Mozilla FirefoxMost of the defaults for Firefox should work with our courses. You will probably need to add your course site to the Allowed Sites list (under Options -> Content tab -> Popup Windows). Note for Safari, Opera, and other browsersAny standards-compliant web browser probably should work with our programs, but these browsers may or may not be officially supported depending on the course. |
