| In 2007, CTY began collaborating with the Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute, world-renowned school of music and one of the nation's major sources of professionally trained musicians. We are proud to announce that CTYOnline students can now enroll in a course developed by Gavin Farrell of the Peabody Institute. |
Developed through a partnership with the Peabody Institute, this course is open to students with qualifying scores in either the verbal or quantitative section of the appropriate level test.
It is designed for students who have had no previous experience in music theory. Using a two-pronged approach, the course places equal emphasis on developing speed and fluency in written work as well as strengthening listening skills through ear-training and sight-singing. Sight-singing sessions will begin with Unit 3. Topics covered include: calligraphy, notation in three clefs (treble, bass and alto), rhythm, meter, scales (major and minor), key signatures, intervals and triads. This course is offered in the flexi-based format. - 5 hours per week, if planning to complete in 12 weeks
- varies with the schedule set up with instructor, if planning to use flexi-paced
Students start the course on a set date and develop with their instructor a schedule to complete the course within the next nine months. Students submit one unit at a time, allowing the instructor time to review and provide feedback before moving on to the next unit. Although the flexi-paced format provides considerable flexibility, students must manage their time carefully to avoid rushing at the end of the course. You must apply 2 weeks before the start date. | Jan 31 | Mar 31 | May 30 | Jul 31 | Sept 30 | Nov 30 |
