CTYOnline courses offered in three formats

Individually paced, session-based, & flexi-paced courses

CTYOnline offers challenging distance courses in three different formats:

  • Individually paced courses: Students may enroll at any time during the year and progress at their own pace within their enrollment period, guided by instructors who strive to meet individual needs. Enrollment and tuition are time based, and students may enroll in a course for three, six, or nine months. If they complete a course with seven or more days remaining in their enrollment period, they may begin another individually paced course. Students who are unable to work on an individually paced course because of a vacation, illness, or camp can postpone their enrollment for breaks of seven days or longer. Students who do not complete their course before their end-date can pay to re-enroll for an additional time period to complete it. Math courses (including AP Calculus), computer science and technology, and science courses below the level of AP are individually paced. See the FAQ for individually paced courses for more details.
  • Session-based courses:  These courses have specific start and end dates; students receive a schedule and must meet deadlines for assignments. Tests, if any, are taken according to the course schedule. All writing, AP (except AP Calculus), language arts, engineering, and foreign language courses are session-based. FAQs are available for session based writing and language arts,AP, and foreign languages.
  • Flexi-paced courses: Students start the course on a set date, and develop with their instructors a schedule to complete the course within the next nine months. Students submit one assignment/complete one unit at a time, allowing instructors time to review and provide feedback before moving on to the next assignment/unit. Although the flexi-paced format provides considerable flexibility, students must manage their time carefully to avoid rushing at the end of the course. The Process of Writing, Writing for an Audience, Crafting the Essay, Writing Analysis and Persuasion, and Mastering the Fundamentals of Music are offered in the flexi-paced format.
