Description
MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment and competition program for middle school students designed to challenge and motivate students to develop strong math skills in preparation for the MATHCOUNTS® competition. This class will cover much of the material needed for success at State and National MathCounts. Students who take this course will be encouraged to register with their home school to compete either as individuals or as part of their school's team in the MATHCOUNTS® competition.
There are no required materials for this course.
The goal of this course is to familiarize students with MATHCOUNTS® competition problems and to assist them in applying efficient problem solving strategies while tackling any level problem. This will be done by exposing students to a wide array of MATHCOUNTS® competition questions and involving students in interactive group sessions with the course instructor, whereby students will be introduced to competitive math problem solving strategies. This course will focus on 11 topics that consistently appear in MATHCOUNTS® competitions, including:

This course uses an online whiteboard, with text, drawing, and video tools, to hold group discussions.
The Instructor will attempt to accommodate student preferences.

All CTYOnline courses require a properly-maintained computer with Internet access and a recent-version web browser (such as Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer) with the Adobe Flash plugin. Students are expected to be familiar with standard computer operations (e.g. login, cut & paste, email attachments, etc).
This course uses an online mathematical whiteboard for individual or group discussions with the instructor. The whiteboard web site requires cookies, popup windows, and the Java Runtime Environment. (Note: iOS & Android devices cannot run Java applets.)
